About Me
I started my journey in body work in 2000 when I was in my 50s. I was in my 4th year of a teaching degree when I decided I had chosen the wrong career and got special consideration and then deferred the study. I started thinking about what I should have done instead. Always being interested in the mind/body connection I did a course in remedial massage. This started off being something to keep me busy while I thought about what to do at uni. Massage soon took over and I didn’t have to finish my teaching degree. While
I was at Uni I was prescribed blue glasses to help with depth
perception and they have been a permanent fixture ever since. I worked with a physiotherapist and at markets as soon as I was able. I got my Cert III in remedial massage in 2001, Cert IV in remedial therapies in 2002 where I studied trigger point and myofascial release. My diploma came in 2006 because I needed it to be accepted by health funds. I have since cancelled my health fund numbers because they started to put pressure on what they thought was acceptable with massage. Because I do myofascial release which is not recognised by most funds, I thought it best that I opt out.
I found that I was able to follow tightness and restrictions in the body by using less and less pressure, so started to work in a different way. My hands had become a major part of communication between the client and myself. I did a short course called Pain Source Release that was taught by Patricia Lovell of Toronto Wellbeing Clinic in 2003 and this was the way that I was already working, so it had a name.
I am always amazed at how much the body can reveal. I feel privileged to be able to sit with a client, help them feel safe and be with them as they soften and unwind or unfold. I do not get in their way as they do what they have to do to heal themselves.
