Trauma

Trauma

Trauma can be caused by an intense stress reaction that the body is unable to cope with. When you or a loved one’s life is in danger (real or imaginary) your whole world view is threatened. The emotion is too much to deal with and so the body must work out ways to hide or stop the pain that the emotion causes. Everyone responds to traumatic experiences differently, so don’t think that you are weak if you are experiencing symptoms of trauma after an event. What is life-threatening to one person is like child’s play to another.

Avoidance

People may re-experience traumas mentally and physically after an event called flash backs. This can be something that the person wants to avoid at all costs, so tries to avoid things which bring up these experiences. The person may turn to self-harming activities to numb themselves from the emotion and pain that the memory could trigger.

Survival Instinct

After a traumatic event our body responses will remember the event, even if we do not realize or feel it. It is our survival mechanism. You survived the traumatic event, so your subconscious will remember for next time – so you might be stressed or hyper-aroused when you come up against a reminder of something that was associated with the event/s. This is called a trigger, and it could be anything. It is your ancient instinct saving you, only it doesn’t know how to tone it down sometimes. It can make your life very difficult.

Pain Source Release and Trauma

Using Pain Source Release I can help you connect with your body in a safe way. I use gentle yet firm pressure to keep you supported as I take you to a restriction which could be a trigger. I wait at that barrier with you until you start to soften into that restriction. There can be a whole body relaxation as you experiment with seeing how far you can go into that restriction. If you are working with a psychologist or GP, you may find that you can progress more easily. If memories or emotions come up as I am working with you, I have found that as soon as they arise they dissolve as the body relaxes into them. If you are not ready to work on a particular area, your body will not show me or open up. It will when you are ready.
